IBANDA – Security leaders and local authorities in Ibanda District have resolved to strengthen coordinated efforts to address rising security concerns, including cattle theft, land disputes, and domestic violence.
The resolutions were reached during a comprehensive security meeting held on March 9, 2026, at the Ibanda District Hall spearheaded by Assistant Inspector General of Police -AIGP Ubaldo Bamunoba, the Chief Political Commissariat (CPC).
CPC Bamunoba’s meeting brought together key government officials, security agencies, and community leaders to deliberate on issues affecting the safety and stability of communities in the district. Among the major resolutions was the introduction of snap road checks across sub-counties in collaboration with Veterinary Officers to regulate and monitor the movement of cattle. The measure is intended to curb livestock theft, which has been a persistent challenge in parts of the district.
Leaders also emphasized the need for political reconciliation among local leaders to foster unity and collective responsibility in addressing community challenges. Participants agreed that cooperation among leaders is essential for maintaining peace and effectively tackling crime.
The meeting further resolved to strengthen multi-stakeholder engagement in security and community sensitization. Community Development Officers, Community-Based Organizations, and religious leaders will work closely with security agencies to promote public awareness, conflict resolution, and social cohesion.
Sub-counties were also tasked with formulating and enforcing bye-laws aimed at preventing crime and strengthening accountability within communities. In addition, the reactivation of Sub-county Security Committees chaired by LC III Chairpersons was agreed upon to enhance grassroots security coordination.
During the meeting, the chairperson commended residents of Ibanda District for conducting a peaceful electoral process, noting that such cooperation contributes significantly to stability in the area.
The engagement forms part of the Inspector General of Police’s ongoing security and community sensitization initiative across the Ankole Region and the wider cattle corridor. The initiative aims to enhance public safety, strengthen partnerships with communities, and promote proactive crime prevention.
The meeting was attended by district leaders, security officials, and other stakeholders committed to safeguarding lives and property in the district. Similar security meetings are expected to continue in Kazo and Kiruhura districts as authorities intensify efforts to strengthen security collaboration across the region.
