As the country still mourns over 50 people killed in protests against the arrest of presidential candidate, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, security agencies have started picking traders who allegedly fueled the demonstrations.

Kyagulanyi was arrested on Wednesday at his campaign rally in Luuka district by police commanded by former Kampala police commander, CP Frank Mwesigwa. Kyagulanyi’s arrest sparked protests in more than 20 districts but military and police responded by indiscriminately shooting at protesters and buildings where non-protesters had sought refuge.

At least 50 people were left dead while more than 100 sustained injuries and they are still fighting for their dear life. With the help of Closed Circuit Television –CCTV security cameras, security forces have started picking traders from their businesses accusing them of having sponsored the demonstrations.

Traders in Kisekka Market which is known as centre for riots said a number of their colleagues have been arrested and bundled in Vans by men dressed in black uniforms, wearing masks and black gaggles.

Some of the traders who were picked include Kazeeyi, Ddamulira John and Godfrey Luboyera. The trio were picked inside their shops and immediately bundled in Vans that sped off to unknown destinations.

Earlier on, police released CCTV photos of all people suspected to have spearheaded the Wednesday and Thursday demonstration in Kampala City, Wakiso and Mukono districts. So far 577 people have been arrested according to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga.

Kyagulanyi was arrested on allegations of flouting Standard Operating Procedures –SOPs intended to control the spread of Corona Virus Disease –Covid19. The Opposition in Uganda feels that the government is using Covid19 to rain terror on them since several people who sympathize with the regime hold gatherings that have crowds doubling those of Opposition are instead protected by military and police.
