Uganda’s Covid19 Cases Jump to 8000

With an addition of 240 new Covid19 cases from samples taken on Monday, Uganda’s accumulative figures have jumped to 8,017.

Like it has been the case, Kampala again registered the highest number of the new cases at 53, followed by Abim 28, Moroto 25, Nabilatuk 11 and nine in Gomba district.

The fast swelling numbers of Covid19 cases in Kampala and other parts of the country have been attributed to recklessness of Ugandans, political actors that have continued to gather people in crowds, failure to observe Standard Operating Procedures –SOPs like wearing of masks, social distancing and washing hands.

There has been significant jump in Covid19 cases ever since NRM party held it primaries countrywide. The primaries were by lining behind the candidate posters but people including politicians never respected the SOP. Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the minister for health, was among the first people to flout SOPs when she held a rally in Lira City ahead of parliamentary elections slated for February 2021.

At least 75 people have succumbed to Covid19n in Uganda while more than 1 million people died globally. Ministry of health has attributed 80 percent of Covid19 fatalities to underlying Non-Communicable Diseases -NCDs mostly diabetes and pressure.
