1000 Bodaboda Riders, Their 401 Passengers Killed in Road Crashes in 9 Months

The traffic police update on road crashes from the month of January and September this year has shown that 1,021Bodaboda riders have died in road crashes.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson, said the Bodaboda riders did not die alone but also their 401 passengers perished.

Nampiima said most of these deaths on the roads have resulted from reckless riding, reckless pedestrians and reckless driving. Speeding is another second major factor traffic police have cited as a major contributor to road killings and injuries.

Police have also revealed that operations against Bodaboda riders not wearing crash helmets and reflector jackets have led to the impounding of 12,217 motorcycles.

Nampiima said so far 10,167 motorcycle riders have been issued with Expres Penalty tickets and have been regained their bikes after paying the fines.

Police said they are now still holding 2,050 motorcycles at various stations countrywide. Police have further warned that the exercise will continue until Bodaboda riders have helmets and reflector jackets.
