KAMPALA — Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with an aggravated robbery in which a car dealer was robbed of valuables worth approximately UGX 29 million near Mackinnon Suites in Nakasero, Kampala.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said the robbery occurred on October 12, 2026, at around 5:30pm opposite the Sudanese Embassy.

“ The victim, Mubazzi Kenneth, a 30-year-old car dealer, was travelling on a motorcycle from Bukoto towards Nakasero when he was attacked by armed men travelling on about seven motorcycles,” Owoyesigyire said.

He said the attackers robbed Mubazzi of three mobile phones, a gold chain and a bracelet valued at approximately UGX 29 million. The victim sustained bruises during the attack. According to Owoyesigyire, the victim raised an alarm, prompting security personnel attached to the Sudanese Embassy to respond.

“Police officers deployed in the Golf Course area pursued the suspects and arrested one, identified as Waiswa Julius, aged 19,” he said. Owoyesigyire added that police recovered one of the stolen phones from the suspect. A red motorcycle, registration number UMA 639PC, believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects, was also recovered at the scene.

He revealed that preliminary findings indicate that Waiswa had previously been remanded at Luzira Prison in 2024 on aggravated robbery charges before being released in July 2026. “The other suspects remain at large as investigations continue to recover the remaining property and apprehend all those involved,” Owoyesigyire said.

He commended the security personnel who responded to the incident and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Police have continued with investigations as efforts to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the stolen valuables intensify.
