BY DANIEL MUMBYA: Two people, including a one-and-a-half-year-old baby, have died in a road accident at Ndolwa Trading Centre along Kamuli-Bukungu Road in Buyende District. The crash occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026, at around 11:30 a.m. and involved a white Tata truck, registration number UA 943CU, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UEF 183V.
Police in Busoga North identified the deceased as Namaganda Susan, 45, and Kanyago Marry, aged one year and six months. Both were residents of Nabigaga Parish, Ndolwa Sub-County.
Two other people sustained injuries in the crash. They were identified as Mbwali Brenda, 23, and boda boda rider Kitimbo Sebastiano, 48, both residents of Ndolwa Village. They were rushed to Kidera Health Centre III and a nearby clinic by well-wishers.
According to a police press release issued by the Busoga North Region, the boda boda rider had stopped at Ndolwa Trading Centre to buy fuel when the two pedestrians approached him to negotiate transport. Police said the Tata truck was allegedly speeding when its driver failed to negotiate a sharp bend, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on the pedestrians and the boda boda rider.
The rider reportedly jumped off his motorcycle in an attempt to escape the crash but sustained injuries. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene following the accident and remains at large. Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the crash and trace the driver.
Authorities have cautioned motorists against over-speeding, particularly when approaching bends, and urged pedestrians to remain vigilant while using the road.
