Joint Security Operations Lead to Arrest of 315 Crime Suspects in Kampala Metropolitan

KAMPALA – A series of joint intelligence-led security operations conducted across the Kampala Metropolitan area has resulted in the arrest of 315 suspects as police intensify efforts to combat crime and improve public safety.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operations were carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and targeted areas identified through intelligence as crime hotspots.

The main operation took place on June 1, 2026, between 9:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., covering Katwe, Nateete, Kajjansi and Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala divisions. The exercise involved officers from CPS Kampala, Kajjansi, Kabalagala and Nateete police divisions.

Police said 280 suspects were arrested during the overnight operation. The suspects are currently undergoing screening to establish their involvement in criminal activities, with those found to have committed offences expected to be charged in court.

During the operation, security personnel also recovered several exhibits, including suspected narcotic drugs, shisha pots, dangerous weapons and television sets believed to be linked to criminal activity. The recovered items are being subjected to further investigation.

In a separate intelligence-led operation, officers from Nansana Police Division raided the areas of Katooke, Nabweru, Kyebando and Yesu Amala, arresting an additional 35 suspects. Like those arrested in Kampala, the suspects are undergoing screening before any charges are preferred.

The combined operations brought the total number of suspects arrested to 315.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said the Uganda Police Force remains committed to conducting sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing crime, dismantling criminal networks and enhancing the safety and security of residents across the metropolitan area.

Police urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely information that can help prevent crime and support ongoing investigations.
