98 Arrested in Security Swoop

The suspects arrest in various security operations in KMP.

It has emerged that 98 people suspected to be engaging in various theft and robbery crimes have been arrested in the last five days in security swoops conducted in areas of Kabalagala and Kira. Reports indicate that Kabalagala Police Division launched an intelligence-led operation code-named “Dwog Paco” to tackle rising crime in their jurisdiction.

Police’s targeted areas included Kasanga, Kisugu, Namungogo, Kanyongoga, and Kasavu parish in Makindye Division. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson said Kabalagala operation aimed to address community concerns over simple robberies, mugging, burglaries, and other crimes.

“A total of 65 suspects were arrested and detained at Kabalagala Division. Charges include possession of narcotic drugs and breaking implements. Statements have been recorded from the suspects. The operation is ongoing, with police committed to reducing criminality in the division. This effort reflects the police’s strategy to engage in proactive, intelligence-driven operations to enhance security,” Onyango said.

Similarly, Kira Police Division carried out a significant intelligence-led operation targeting areas like Mbalwa, Kakajjo, and Kireku. Onyango said the operation aimed to curb increasing criminality in these areas, particularly focusing on spots frequented by suspected criminals involved with opium.

“A total of 33 suspects were arrested – 13 from Mbalwa and 20 from Kakajjo (Koboko) zone and Kireku. Suspects were charged with possession of narcotic substances. Exhibits of opium were recovered and exhibited,” Onyango said.

In all the two swoops, police said the targeted places were mapped out, and teams were briefed on professional conduct. Onyango said the operations met their objectives and such efforts will continue to combat crime.
