Police have recovered UGX105 million out of 242 million robbed from Give and Take Hardware accountant Ausi Kisitu on August 22, 2025. The recovery has been made by Old Kampala police which took over the investigations following receiving a report from the victim of an aggravated robbery that occured at Kakeka Zone, Rubaga Division, in Kampala.
Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said: “On that day, a group of thugs armed with pangas and riding on five motorcycles violently intercepted Mr. Kisitu Ausi, an accountant with Give and Take Hardware, robbed him of UGX 242 million that he was taking to the bank. Fortunately, neither the victim nor his rider was injured during the attack.”
Owoyesigyire explained that following swift intelligence-led operations, detectives analyzed CCTV footage and other leads, which led to the arrest of several suspects. So far, the following individuals have been charged: Bakunda Steven alias Kevin, Atwine Robert Kiiza alias Mzee Lubuto, Andebuni Brian alias Junior Black, Musuza Raymond alias Caesar, Ssali Andrew alias Ande Swag, Kanyerezi Stanley, Nsubuga Andrew and Aboth Shivan Alecho.
Police explained that Alecho has been charged as an accessory after the fact. “During the operations, Police recovered UGX 105 million, a motorcycle believed to have been purchased with proceeds of the robbery, and a black laptop bag containing vouchers and receipts from Give and Take Hardware. These exhibits were positively identified by the complainant,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police have preferred charges of Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Being Accessories After the Fact to a Felony. Owoyesigyire added that investigations are ongoing to trace other accomplices who are still at large. “We reassure the public that such violent crimes will be pursued to their full conclusion, and we commend our officers for the dedicated work that has already yielded results in this case,” police said.
Owoyesigyire said the suspects were likely to appear in court before the end of Thursday September 2025, before Mwanga II Chief Magistrate’s Court. Police have invited members of the media to cover the proceedings and also provide possible information that could lead to a successful prosecution.
