NUP Deputy spokes person Waiswa Alex Mufumbiro and Sauda Madada have been also charged and remanded to Luzira prison over a millitary parade held at NUP Hqs in February this year.
Mufumbiro was arrested from the Kawempe court premises on Monday bundled into a waiting van and driven to his home for a search while Sauda Madada was picked up by police in Busia as she attempted ro Cross into Kenya.
Mufmbiro is vying for the Nakawa East MP while Suads Madada was nominated as a Kampala woman Lord Councillor on the NUP Ticket. The two have been driven to Kawempe Court amidst tight security from Uganda Police and the Army.
Mufumbiro and Madada now join seven other NUP members remanded to Luzira prison by the Kawempe chief Magistrates court inrelation to charges relating to millitary drilling thus bringing the number to nine.
The seven are ; Edward Ssebufu alias Eddie Mutwe , Achielo Kivumbi, Tasi Calvin aka Bobi Giant , Serunkuuma Edwin aka Eddie King Kabenja and Lukenge Sharif. Others are , Nyanzi Yasin and Kaweesi Tonny. The group of nine will return to court on 29th/ September for the state prosecutor to reply to their bail application.
Its the Prosecution’s case that on February 12, 2025, at the NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule, Wandegeya, Kawempe Division, the seven , together with others still at large, attended a meeting or assembly of persons held without the permission of the Minister.
Prosecution adds that the said gathering was allegedly aimed at training or drilling participants in military exercises, movements, and evolutions, contrary to Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.
In a other counts, the seven are accused of conspiring to commit a felony. Court has heard that on the same day and at the same venue, they agreed with others to engage in unlawful drilling, an offence While Sauda Madda faces a separate charge of offenses relating to uniforms hence her aka name AIGP.( Asst Inspector of Police .)
Madada is said to have worn a uniform / dress having marks of the Uganda Security forces. Mufumbiro and Madada have denied the charges and proceeded to apply to be released on bail . Mufumbiro has presented his 63 year old father Bayigeya Moses Mufumbiro, his wife Edith Katende and Nakawa East MP Eng Ronald Balimwezo.
However prosecution represented chief state Attorney Sharon Nambuya informed court they were not ready to respond to the accused’s bail application and asked for more time which has been granted by presiding Gradeone magistrate Damalie Agumaasiimwe. The Two have been remanded to Luzira prison until 29th September as police inquiries continue.
