UNRA to Hire Company To Tow Stuck Vehicles off Roads

The Uganda National Roads Authority- UNRA has called for applications from Ugandan private companies to tow cars off roads.

The application to be received latest Monday will lead to an initiative of clearing stuck vehicles off all high ways in the central region for safe movement.

The cars , following recent reports on the high rate of road accidents have been deemed as some of the contributors to these tragedies.

Allan Ssempebwa, the spokes person UNRA explained the arrangement as one where the successful applicant will be contracted for three years ,renewable and their facilitation will partly come from owners to these cars .

“We are going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with this company , of course we can not get into procurement now because the work has to start immediately. What we shall do, the company will tow these cars at a cost ,paid by the car owners.”

The towing companies will also be responsible for patroling for any vehicles that break down along the high ways .

While UNRA had this in plan since last year, it’s initiative this time round as a directive from the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among , has accelerated it’s execution.

Individuals in charge of towing companies asked the government to gazzete space for parking the stuck vehicles once put off the road .
