The ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development has released 4.833 Trillion shillings for government entities for the first quarter of the financial year 2023/2024.
Of the disbursement 169.968 Billion Uganda Shillings will be for payment of pension for retired civil servants and 147.778 Billion for gratuity payments within the quarter.
In his press release , Ramathan Goobi the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Treasury directed that all wages and pension payments be made by 28th of every month .
He also added saying that all government institutions would be required to display a list of their pay roll for salaries and pension.
In addition, 111.687 Billion shillings have been allocated for payment of arrears under institutions including salary, pension and gratuity.

Local governments have also received 250 million Uganda shillings each , that’s to a tune of 44 Billion altogether for road maintenance.
Goobi noted that the ministry is intent on minimising unnecessary expenditure to minimise on Uganda’s debt levels.
He said ,”Government will not spend money it doesn’t have instead of borrowing beyond optimal levels we shall reduce the expenditure for activities that do not add to the value of our economy or well being of Ugandans.”
The approved budget for the financial year 2023/2024 is 52.736 Trillion shillings. The first batch for first quarter was released on 6 July ,2023 but only made public on July 18th ,2023
