The opening of the Bwaise Bus Terminal has been postponed indefinitely from its slated date 1 August. 2023.
The postponement came in following a request by Uganda Taxi Operators Federation -UTOF on behalf of stage leaders in Bwaise .
These requested that a test drive scheduled for Monday 17 July ,2023 be halted because of more stringent matters that needed to be addressed.
The postponement of this test drive which was to go on for 2 weeks ,alters the entire program including meeting the deadline for opening the park as earlier planned .
Moses Kyeyune , the relations manager Kampala Logistics Center -Kalocen Investment Limited, the terminal developer noted that he deemed the request timely. He referred to it as a good sign that all parties are on board and working together to smooth out anything that may cause issues upon the opening of the terminal.
“According to the federation of public transport especially taxi drivers , they requested that we give them time to sort out the duplicity of stages,” Kyeyune said.

Within the one month period for preparation granted to UTOF, several meetings will be held amongst stake holders including different stage leaders in Bwaise meeting amongst themselves, meetings with mother stage leaders for masaka and others and eventually a general meeting with Kalocen Investments Limited.
The meetings are expected to enable all parties agree on the terms of operation of the terminal once it opens.
The letter in part signed off by Ssekindi Rashid, chairperson UTOF reads; “The aim of the proposed meetings is to brainstorm and agree on how to work together. The outcome of the proposed meeting will lead to the next step of entering the park without any hustle.”
The proposed park is one of the four adopted as possible projects by Kampala City Council in 2012 , with others being Banda and Natete.
It is an initiative meant to assist in decongesting the city ,but also create business and employment for those around the facility away from town.
According to Kyeyune ,the park which is a transitional terminal has capacity of holding up to 600 taxis at ago , better still 3000 when in transit . It can also hold up to 20 buses and 50 Lorries at ago.
In addition, the terminal has provision for private parking of cars. This terminal which sits on over 6 acres of land is situated in the area between the Northern by pass, Bombo Road and Mambule.
