
The shadow cabinet has given the government of Uganda an ultimatum of 1 month for Local Council elections to be held .
Yesterday Tuesday, the term of office for over 800,000 Local Council 1 and 2 chairpersons expired. Due to lack of funds by government, office bearers were requested to extend their duties till further notice.
Betty Naluyima – the woman MP of Wakiso district and Shadow minister for local government has maintained her stand that this manner of negotiation is violation of known procedure within government.

She argues that asking the leaders to continue their duties is not covered by any statutory regulation, not even stage of emergency which would have been announced prior.
Brenda Nabukenya , MP for Luwero district declared on behalf of the team that incase the government fails to pull off elections by the end of 1 month , more action will ensue .
“We have given the government one month to conduct the elections , there after we shall take up the law in other forms.”
Similarly the Muwogola County Mp Gorreti Namugoja expressed her disappointment in the government for clearly showing that it has no value for leadership for the people .
Local Council chairpersons are grass root leaders who directly face off with society needs , Namugoja expressed .
The government claims to have failed to raise 59 Billion Uganda Shillings needed to conduct these elections.
