VP Alupo Urges School Heads to Sensitize Communities on PDM

The Vice President of Uganda, Jessica Alupo, has urged head teachers to take on sensitisation of their communities for the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Alupo made this call with concern that there was low uptake on the the government project ,PDM in Katakwi, which seeks to alleviate communities from poverty.

While presiding over the end of a training session for 1,490 students from patriotism clubs in Katakwi today, Alupo said ; “I have heard people saying that if I fail to pay my land will be taken , my bank account will be emptied , I will be made a criminal and arrested…”

According to her , there is no need for such fears as none of that would happen, she related the program to other similar like entandikwa, Operation Wealth Creation and others .

Recently in May this year , the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni directed that the loan payment grace period for funds from PDM be extended to two years.

According to the President, the money would fail to achieve its purpose since it would be hard for members to realise tangible financial gains in just four months or one year which has been the grace period for previous similar programs.

The Parish Development Model is a wealth creation program where parishes are organised into cooperatives , through these members are given 100 Million shillings for distribution amongst themselves to develop their enterprises.
