Security Beefed in Oyam North Constituency As Candidates Engage in Final Rallies

Security has been beefed in North Kyoga as candidate pace to meet voters in the final campaign rally. The security is being headed by Commissioner of Police -CP Deo Obura, supported by commanders of regional Counter-Terrorism -CT team and uniform units.

Superintendent of Police -SP Jimmy Akena, the North Kyoga police spokesperson, said: “So far so good from day one, we have had quite a very peaceful process with one registered case of assault where a journalist who was to moderate a talk show paid by NRM team was allegedly assaulted and the case is closely being investigated by our territorial command at Oyam CPS.”

Akena added: “As we come to the climax of campaign today 4th July 2023 with party presidents campaigning for their candidates, we have the NRM Chairman who is the President of the Republic of Uganda H.E Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.”

Museveni will first pay respect by laying a wreath on the grave of the late Rtd Col Charles Okello Engola Mac-Odwogo, then move to Otwol Sub-County and finally Iceme Sub-County where he will be campaigning for his flag bearer Junior Okello Engola.

Oyam North constituency fell vacant after its legislator and also minister for state for labour Engola was gunned down on May 2, 2023 by his bodyguard Pte Wilson Sabiiti. The guard accused him of not paying his salary and this murder happened in Kyanja, Nakawa division, in Kampala.
