Tough Times for Gay Community in Uganda as Law Criminalizing Same-Sex Marriages is Passed

C.O.U Archbishop Dr Samuel Kazimba has even threatened to breakaway from Church of England over homosexuality marriages.

The homosexuals, lesbians, and quire communities in Uganda are headed for tough times as the country’s parliament has passed a law criminalizing same-sex sexual intercourse. Uganda parliament on Tuesday passed the law that would land the LGBTQ+ community over 10 years in jail.

Bugiri Municipality lawmaker, Asuman Basalirwa, who is also the reigning president of the Jeema political party tabled the Bill which has now been passed a law by the legislators and waits for the President’s approval.

It was a full house as MP debated the Bill and later passed with a majority decision despite a few legislators who argued it was not necessary to legislate sexual intercourse of two consenting adults.

However, there have been concerns about LGBTQ+ members who have clandestinely recruited children into same-sex activities to the extent of recording and live streaming what has been described as ungodly acts on social media.

Gay activities have ravaged many schools in Uganda and many parents and school administrators have been left in shock after discovering the children’s unnatural sexual activities.

Parliament’s decision to pass the law comes at a time when religious leaders from different denominations have publicly expressed their disapproval of same-sex sexual activities and some have held crusades condemning the same.

This is the first time Uganda has passed a law against homosexuality because a similar one was assented to by President Yoweri Museveni in 2014 but it was later challenged in courts of law. The court annulled the law on the fact that it was passed without the stipulated quorum.
