Micheal Sunday has been arrested on allegations of sodomizing his two teenage employees at Kilembe cell, Nyamityobora ward, Mbarara City. Sunday, who according to police is aged 34, molested 17 and 18-year-old boys in January and February this year.
Senior Commissioner of Police, Fred Enanga, who is also the police spokesperson, said Sunday had employed the victims to vend his pineapples in Mbarara City, and he rented a single room.
Enanga said Sunday was sharing one mattress with six other workers, and would occasionally, have forceful sexual intercourse with the victims, against the order of nature. It took the courage of an 18-year teenager who brought Sunday’s acts to police attention.
“We want to thank the 18-year-old victim who took courage and reported the matter to the police. He was subjected to a medical examination at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and proof of a ruptured anus was established,” Enanga said.
Acts of sodomy are against Ugandan laws and are punishable. However, incidents of children and students who have been sodomized by teachers, relatives, and some purported clergymen have become synonymous in the media.
A few weeks ago, Kasese councilors were on the spot for passing by-laws recognizing homosexuality, which irked parliament members led by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa. The Church of Uganda- C.O.U Archbishop Dr Samuel Kazimba, has since announced that Uganda is like to secede from England Church which has recognized same-sex marriages.
Other than the Mbarara incident the police in Kasangati have in custody, one Matovu Jimmy Peter, a 30-year-old, resident of Lubatu zone, Kiteezi Parish, Kasangati Town Council, for threatening violence and attempted Sodomy, of a 24-year-old shop attendant.
Enanga said the victim whose name has been concealed visited him in his room on Saturday at around 1 pm. Matovu attempted to sodomize his visitor but he was energetic enough to resist his forceful advances.
“The victim put up resistance after he was put at knife-point and alerted residents, who mobilized and arrested the suspect. A search was conducted at his home and a sex toy, a knife, and other exhibits were recovered,” Enanga said.
Police have strongly condemned all forms of sexual violence, and vowed that they shall ensure the perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes.
