Fake School Van Driver Kidnaps Kampala Children

There was a shocking incident in Kampala on Wednesday morning when a fake school van went collecting children going to school from their parents’s homes.

After the Vans disappeared, parents were shocked when the true school Van came looking for the same pupils.

The parents were sent in a panic mode and some recorded audios that went viral prompting police in Kampala and its neighborhood to mount swift road checkpoints leading to the arrest of the suspected driver and vehicle.

“Upon receipt of this information, all officers in Kampala Metropolitan were alerted to intercept the said vehicle that was carrying the alleged abducted children,” deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said.

He added: “At approximately 10:00am, the officers at Central Police Station while at a check point they had mounted at Kyagwe road, they impounded a taxi bearing registration number UBA 291C that contained five school children.”

Police said the driver of the taxi was arrested and subsequently taken to Kitezi Police Station, where the case had already been registered.

Owoyesigyire said all of the victims, who were school children, were safely rescued and escorted to Kitezi Police Station for further management. Police also took the impounded to Kitezi Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.

“We would like to assure the public that we are taking this matter very seriously and are doing everything in our power to ensure the safety of all citizens, particularly children,” Owoyesigyire said.

Parents and guardians have been urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Police have also promised to keep the public informed of any developments in this case as they become available.
