Medad Musinguzi also known as Francis Nsenga 21, is in Rukungiri police custody on accusations of kidnapping a three year old boy and demanding ransom with 1.5 million shillings.
Musinguzi, who is a resident of Omukashanda village Nyabushenyi parish, Nyarushanje Subcounty, in Rukungiri district, allegedly kidnapped Aroni Atukunda, a pupil at Excel centre community nursery school, on Monday when schools reopened for the new academic year.
The pupil is a son to Alex Ankunda a builder who lives in the same village with the suspect Musinguzi.
Assistant Superintendent of Police – Elly Mate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, said Musinguzi called the victim’s father using tell 0776563047 and asked for a ransom of 1.5m Ugandan shillings as a condition of his release to return him to his parents.
“A report was made by the victim’s father,
inquiries commenced, the victim was rescued. The suspect was arrested from his hideout through phone tracking on 07/02/2023 at about 1800hrs from Kinaba village Kanungu district,” ASP Mate said.
Police said the victim was there after medically examined and handed over to the parents while in good condition.
Mate said inquiries are ongoing, and upon completion will be arraigned before courts of law to answer charges accordingly.
