Man Cuts 3 Family Members to Death, Locals Lynch Him

Locals in Nsango parish, Bugiri district, have killed Shaban Mukhooli, whom they accused of killing his three family members over an Imbalu circumcision disagreement. Mukhooli, according to Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson, was angered by his relatives’ act of circumcising his two male children under Imbalu culture yet he preferred them to be circumcised by a Muslim cleric.

Mukhooli, out of anger, picked a panga and cut to death his mother in-Susan Kirete 60, sister Justine Namubufe and nephew Pride Kiiza 6. Upon learning about Mukhooli’s act, the residents searched for him and he to was killed in a mob action.

Nandawula said the victims’ bodies have since been conveyed to Bugiri hospital as investigations into the whole scenario proceed. Police have warned the public against carrying the law into their hands whenever they are faced with challenges.

Imbalu is a circumcision ritual where a male is circumcised in the public and it is practiced by the Bamasaba. Imbalu is perceived as one of the annual cultural practices that attract tourists and is often attended by hundreds of people.
