Police have started hunting for a woman identified as, Rose Maliko alias Kiiza, who is accused of killing his own father, Alias Ponzio, over food. The shocking incident has happened at Ayivu West division, Arua City.
The suspect, according to West Nile police spokesperson, SP Josephine Angucia, is aged 23 while the victim is 48 years old.
SP Angucia said Maliko allegedly killed her biological father after he stopped her from eating food because she had refused to fetch water.
“The deceased told her to go and fetch water from the well for home use, which she refused. In the evening when food was ready, the late told the suspect not to eat since she refused to fetch water for family use,” SP Angucia said.
Maliko first moved away in anger, but return shortly. She hit her father so hard which made him to fall down, his breathing badly changed.
“When the family rushed him to Adumi Health Centre 4, he was pronounced dead. When police received this information, the Police team from Ayivu West division rushed to the scene and recorded relevant statements from witnesses at the scene,” SP Angucia said.
Police took the body to Arua Hospital mortuary for postmortem but could not arrest the suspect since she had fled the scene.
“Information got from family members and neighbours is that the suspect has been a lazy person who doesn’t like to do anything. Because being advised all the time, she has been promising to kill any one of her parents,” SP Angucia said.
The crime is being investigated under CRB 01/2023. Police have advised sons and daughters of families to respect their parents and guardians, as well as be productive at home.
In addition, family members have been urged to use peaceful means like family dialogues and meetings to solve conflicts instead of violence which may result into undesirable incidents like death.
“Any family member who causes death to another through violence will be arrested, charged with murder and the maximum punishment by Court is to suffer death,” SP Angucia said.
