
At least 81 people have already picked presidential nomination forms as the country gears to 2021 general elections.
Paul Bukenya, the spokesperson of Electoral Commission, said the people who have picked nomination forms are expected to return them with at least 100 signatures from each of 98 districts out 135 districts that make up Uganda.
The 82 aspirants include President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has been in power since 1986. Museveni’s biggest challenger is Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine four-time challenger Dr Kizza Besigye has declared no intention to stand.
Others expected to appear on presidential ballot papers if they fulfill all the requirements include former security minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, Forum for Democratic Change president, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, if at all he wins his party’s flag.
For all the times Museveni has contested to legitimize his overstay in power, elections period has been marred with violence where security agencies are used to block rallies of rival candidates.
