40 Bobi Wine Supporters Arrested Protesting Provocation by City Socialite

At least 42 supporters of Kyadondo East MP and presidential hopeful, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine were on Thursday arrested protesting the continued provocation by City socialite Charles Olem alias Sipapa.

The youth who also subscribe to Nation Unity Platform- NUP the newest political party in Uganda and People Power a political pressure group all founded by Bobi Wine accused police of shielding Sipapa at the risk of their lives.

Sipapa on Wednesday afternoon raided people power offices in Kamwokya and shot at the gate injuring one person. This was the second time since as he had on August 30th attacked the same offices and fired bullets.

The youth who also subscribe to Nation Unity Platform- NUP the newest political party in Uganda and People Power a political pressure group all founded by Bobi Wine accused police of shielding Sipapa at the risk of their lives.

During the Thursday protest, the youth blocked roads using with logs including to burning tyres as they demanded police to arrest Sipapa before he kills some of them with his reckless shooting bahaviour.

Superintendent of Police –SP Patrick Onyango said at around 11:30 hours on Thursday National Unity Platform (People Power) supporters dressed in their red attire in a group of about 40 were allegedly mobilized by Bobi Wine’s elder brother Fred Nyanzi Sentamu carried out a procession holding placards demanding for the arrest of Charles Olem alias Sipapa.

SP Onyango confirmed that the group expressed discomfort with the two incidents of shooting of the 30th August and 15th September 2020 at their offices at Contafrica zone Kamwokya II Parish Central Division in Kampala City.

“The group blocked the Old Kira Road with logs, burning tyres to prevent any other road user to access it. According to NUP supporters, they have vowed to continue demonstrating until Sipapa is arrested,” SP Onyango said.

Police first arrested alleged to engaged in the demonstration but the numbers grew to 42 by evening hours. Police said the suspects are being charged with illegal procession.

“The suspects’ case files will be processed and submitted to Director of Public Prosecutions. All tyres used in the demonstration were picked from Nyanzi’s building. According to intelligence reports, received more tyres are being ferried,” SP Onyango said.

Although police restored order in the area and business returned to normal, it urged NUP supporters that the government has institutions where they can channel their grievances other than taking the law in their hands.
