KAMPALA — Security agencies have arrested two suspected members of a gang accused of terrorizing residents in Kawempe and surrounding areas with violent robberies involving pangas.
According to police, the arrests followed numerous complaints from the public about armed thugs breaking into homes and attacking residents. An intelligence-led operation was launched on April 21, 2026, along Tula Namere Road in Kawempe Division, Wakiso District.

The suspects have been identified as Serwanja Najjib and Derrick. Preliminary investigations indicate that the duo allegedly targeted homes at night, using pangas to assault victims before robbing them of their belongings.
During the operation, officers recovered several items believed to have been used in the crimes, including pangas and housebreaking implements. Two mobile phones suspected to be stolen were also found in the suspects’ possession.
Police further recovered a motorcycle, registration number UGD 081D, which the suspects were riding at the time of their arrest. Authorities noted that the number plate had been deliberately concealed, raising further suspicion about its use in criminal activities.
Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the development and said efforts are underway to track down other members of the gang.
“Our forces are intensifying operations to apprehend more suspects linked to these violent robberies. Investigations are ongoing,” she said.
The latest arrests come amid heightened concern among residents in Kawempe over rising cases of violent crime, particularly attacks involving machete-wielding assailants.
Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities as the crackdown continues.
