Government Declares Friday a Public Holiday

BY S KWAGALA: The government of Uganda has officially declared Friday, May 10th, 2024, as a public holiday. This announcement comes in light of the forthcoming enumeration exercise scheduled to commence on the same day.

The enumeration exercise, which spans over a period of ten days, is of paramount importance to the nation. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Uganda Bureau of Standards, Albert Byamugisha, emphasized the significance of this exercise during a press briefing held at the Police Headquarters, Naguru.

Mr. Byamugisha urged all Ugandans to stay at home on Friday to facilitate the smooth execution of the enumeration process. The exercise aims to gather crucial data on various aspects, including social, economic, and demographic statistics of households across the country.

The government’s decision to declare Friday as a public holiday underscores its commitment to ensuring the success of the enumeration exercise. It provides citizens with the opportunity to actively participate in the process and contribute to the collection of vital data that will inform policy and decision-making at both local and national levels.

As Uganda prepares for this important undertaking, citizens are encouraged to cooperate fully with the enumerators and provide accurate information. By doing so, they play a pivotal role in shaping the future development and progress of the nation.
