NIRA Calls On Parents to Register Their Learners During Holiday

The National Identification Registration Authority is reminding parents and guardians to take opportunity of the holiday for registration of their children.

Osbon Mushabe , the public relations officer for NIRA noted that this should capture children below 16 years.

While they will be able to acquire National Identification Numbers-NIN, Identity Cards are made available to them when they clock 16 years of age.

Mushabe also mentioned that there are two categories of parents , those being reminded to pick NIN details for their learners ,and those who haven’t registered at all.

He said; “So our dear parents , we are requesting you to avail time for your learners to report to registration centers.”

Among the requirements for registration is a National ID for a parent or blood relative incase the former are deceased and physical appearance of children for their biometrics to be taken at Registration centers.

However , there is an exception for babies below 9 months where only the parent or guardian is needed at the registration point

NIRA has been at this registration of children since 2017 which the government says will help in better planning and management for school going children.
