UMA Demands for Deployment of Medical Interns in 2 Weeks

The Uganda Medical Association-UMA is demanding for the deployment of medical interns by 1st August. The Association has threatened that once the interns are not deployed by then, all health workers under the umbrella will take to industrial action.

Dr. Herbert Luswata , the General Secretary UMA ,promised that this time round it would not be only the senior officers that have been on strike but every health worker including nurses,pharmacists and all will be required to lay down their tools until interns are deployed.

The welfare chairman of UMA, Alon Nahabwe in his demand mentioned that the government has not taken into consideration how many patients have been neglected and left for dead at health facilities because of their understaffing while deployment of interns is delayed.

Government needs 80 Billion Uganda shillings to deploy the 1901 medical interns.
