Police in Mubende District are hunting for suspected robbers who killed a couple, injured two other people and stole valuables during separate attacks on three villages in Kitenga Sub-county.
The attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 9, 2026, in Lukaya and Kayanja villages, according to a statement issued by Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP L. Kigozi on October 10.
The deceased have been identified as Sserwanja Ivan, 29, and his pregnant wife, Nakalanzi Rose, 26, who were found dead in their home in Lukaya Village.
Police said the couple’s bodies were discovered at about 10 a.m. after a child from a neighbouring home went to their residence, called out to them and received no response despite finding the door open. The child alerted a neighbour, identified as Kyarisima Loyce, who entered the house and found the couple lying lifeless in a pool of blood.
Police homicide detectives, led by the Mubende District Police Commander, visited the scene, documented evidence and recorded statements from witnesses.
The bodies had multiple deep cut wounds to the head and were taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations. A blood-stained forked hoe was recovered from the scene as an exhibit. Police also deployed a sniffer dog, but heavy rain reportedly hampered its efforts.
The attackers allegedly stole the couple’s Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFZ 589C, and two smartphones. Police suspect the robbery may have been financially motivated because the couple dealt in coffee. In a separate incident in Lukaya Village, Bugonzi Parish, a 40-year-old woman, Nalukenge Sophia, was attacked in her home at about 2 a.m. on the same day.
Police said an unidentified man dressed in black struck her on the head with a blunt object when she woke up to ease herself. She raised an alarm, prompting her elder daughter to wake up and call for help from neighbours. The suspect fled with three smartphones and one button phone. Nalukenge was rushed to Royal Medical Clinic for treatment.
Police said preliminary observations indicated that the attacker had not broken into the house, raising suspicion that he may have entered undetected and hidden inside or that the house had not been properly secured.
In another attack in Kayanja Village, Nsengwe Parish, unidentified assailants armed with a panga and a knife broke into the home of Tumwebaze Onesmus and his wife, Kukundakwe Agatha, and severely injured them before escaping with two mobile phones.
The Mubende District Police Commander, SP Umar Mugerwa, visited the affected scenes and conducted community policing to engage residents on security concerns.
Police said investigators had obtained leads that were being pursued in collaboration with the Wamala Region Flying Squad Unit to identify and arrest the suspects. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as investigations into the attacks continue.
