Ggaba Day Care Children Murder Suspect Charged, Remanded

Suspect Christopher Okello Onyum under police custody

Christopher Okello Onyum, a suspect in the murder of four children at Ggaba Day Care Centre, was yesterday charged in Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded to Luzira Prison. Okello was arrested on April 4th, 2026 following a deadly attack at a daycare centre in Ggaba that left four children dead, in one of the most disturbing incidents reported in the city this year.

Uganda Police Force with the help of the day care staff apprehended Okello during a response to a distress call at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Programme in Ggaba. Preliminary findings indicated that the victims Eteku Gideon, Kaise Alungat, Ignatius Sserwange and Ryan Odeke were all pupils at the facility, aged between two and three years.

Police say efforts are underway to establish the motive behind the attack and to examine the suspect’s background. Police Spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, also confirmed they are reviewing a video circulating online in which a woman alleges the suspect was previously involved in the death of her child and evaded justice. “The matter is now under active investigation. The case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Uganda) for legal guidance as police pursue charges,” ACP Rusoke said.
