180 Arrested in Coordinated Security Operations

Police in Kampala Metropolitan have arrested 180 suspects following a series of coordinated operations targeting crime-prone areas across the city. The intelligence-led operations, conducted on March 26, 2026, focused on identified hotspots and black spots known for harboring criminal elements.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal, the targeted areas included Kazo Angola, Kyebando, Mengo, Old Kampala, Mbalwa, Namuwongo-Soweto, Kireku, and Kabalagala, among others.

Police say the operations were aimed at disrupting gatherings where suspects allegedly engage in smoking narcotic substances and planning or executing criminal activities. The swoops were carried out simultaneously across multiple divisions in a bid to dismantle organized crime networks operating within the metropolitan area.

“All the suspects are currently in custody pending screening and further investigations,” SP Kawala said, adding that those found culpable will be formally charged in courts of law.

The operations form part of ongoing efforts by police to curb urban crime, particularly offenses such as robberies, phone snatching, and related street crimes that have recently raised concern among city residents.

Kampala Metropolitan Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, warning individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full force of the law.

Authorities have also called on the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing information that can support crime prevention efforts.

Police say similar operations will continue to ensure safety in the capital and its surrounding areas.
