The National Unity Platform’s coordinator of its school of leadership Doreen Kaijja has been remanded to Luzira prison on charges relating to millitary drilling and offenses relating to establishing and operating a unregistered school .
27 year old Kaija was arrested last weekend from her home in Kinawataka-Mbuya Nakawa division and bundled into a waiting security van.
Today Kaijja has been presented before the Kawempe chief Magistrates court to enter plea on an amended chargesheet that includes her as accused number Ten and addition of one more offence.
Kaija now joins the party’s deputy spokes person Waisswa Mufumbiro, mobiliser Saudah Madada, Edward Ssebufu aka Eddie Mutwe , Achielo Kivumbi , Calvin Tasi alias Bobi Giant – all private body guards to president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and 5 other NUP supporters who were remanded first on similar charges.
Now the group of ten will return to court on the 29th/ September for prosecution to make responses in their respective bail applications.
Its the Prosecution’s case that on February 12, 2025, at the NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule, Wandegeya, Kawempe Division, the ten , together with others still at large, attended a meeting or assembly of persons held without the permission of the Minister.
Prosecution adds that the said gathering was allegedly aimed at training or drilling participants in military exercises, movements, and evolutions, contrary to Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.
In another count, the ten are accused of conspiring to commit a felony while
Kaijja faces a separate charge of offenses relating to private school.
Prosecution’s Sharon Nambuya states that in the year 2020 to date, Kaijja maintained / established a non -classified or unregistered school contrary to 41(a) of the Education( pre-primary, primary and post-primary ) Act.
Just like the other nine, Kaijja too has denied the three counts before Grade One magistrate Damalie Agumaasiimwe and awaits her fate to temporarily freedom to be determined by the 29th/ September .
