TECNO Unveils Spark 40 Series and World’s Slimmest Phone in Uganda

Smartphone brand TECNO has officially launched its latest devices, the Spark 40 Pro, Spark 40 Pro Plus, and a surprise model called the Spark Slim, in Uganda. The launch highlights TECNO’s continued push to dominate the mid-range smartphone market with affordable but feature-packed devices.

Over the years, smartphones have become more than just tools for making calls. They are now cameras, entertainment hubs, mobile offices, and even wallets. In countries like Uganda, where many people are going digital, smartphones play an important role in connecting people to jobs, banking, and learning opportunities. That is why new phone launches like the Spark 40 series attract attention, especially when the devices promise better performance at affordable prices.

According to Bruce Dickson, TECNO’s Product Consultant, the highlight of the launch is the Spark Slim, which he described as the “world’s slimmest smartphone.” The device measures just 5.98 millimeters in thickness. For users who value light and slim phones that easily fit in pockets or handbags, this design could be a major attraction.

The Spark 40 Pro and Spark 40 Pro Plus also come with improved specifications. They are powered by the Helio G200 processor, which is one of the strongest in the mid-range category. This means the phones can handle multiple apps, gaming, and other demanding tasks without slowing down.

Charging speed is another area where TECNO is trying to stand out. The Spark 40 series supports up to 45-watt wired charging and 30-watt wireless charging, allowing users to get their devices back to full power in less time. For people in Uganda who rely heavily on their phones for business or communication, fast charging reduces the stress of running out of battery during the day.

The new devices feature an AMOLED screen with 1.5K resolution, offering clearer and brighter visuals. This is especially useful for streaming, social media, and watching videos. TECNO has also maintained its focus on photography, which has been one of its strongest selling points across Africa.

Though details of the camera specifications were not fully shared, the company said the phones come with AI (artificial intelligence) features that improve picture quality, even in low light.

“Whether it is photography, battery life, or the latest technology like artificial intelligence, TECNO has continued to provide value at affordable prices,” Dickson said at the launch.

The Spark 40 Pro Plus will cost UGX 799,000, while the Spark 40 Pro will cost UGX 699,000. TECNO emphasized that customers should only buy from authorized dealers or exclusive TECNO shops to avoid counterfeits.

Dickson warned that fake versions of TECNO phones are already flooding the market, especially on online platforms like TikTok. He gave an example where a Spark 40 Pro Plus, which should cost 799,000 shillings, was being advertised at just 450,000 shillings.

“If you see such offers, know that it is fake. Fake phones not only waste your money but also give a bad experience because they do not have the same quality as the original,” he explained.

Counterfeit phones remain a big problem in Uganda and other African countries. Many buyers are attracted to lower prices but end up with devices that fail quickly or do not support important software updates. This also affects genuine manufacturers because it damages customer trust.

TECNO, which is already ranked among the six most admired brands in Africa, says it is working to protect its customers. The company encourages buyers to check for authorized dealers and avoid suspiciously cheap offers.

The launch of the Spark 40 series comes at a time when competition in the smartphone industry is getting tougher. Brands like Samsung, Infinix, Xiaomi, and Oppo are all fighting for the attention of price-sensitive consumers in Africa. What gives TECNO an edge is its strategy of focusing on affordability while still packing in high-end features such as AI cameras, large batteries, and now wireless charging.

The decision to introduce the “world’s slimmest phone” also positions TECNO as a brand that wants to mix style with performance. For young people, who form the biggest share of smartphone buyers in Uganda, design and camera quality are often as important as price.

Uganda’s smartphone penetration has been growing steadily, with more people shifting from basic phones to smartphones. Devices like the Spark 40 series offer a middle ground: affordable enough for the average person, but powerful enough to handle modern digital needs. With government services, education, and even financial transactions moving online, the availability of reliable and affordable smartphones is becoming more important.

For TECNO, the Spark 40 launch is not just about selling new gadgets. It is about strengthening its hold in Uganda and Africa as a whole. By combining sleek designs, fast charging, strong processors, and AI-powered features at mid-range prices, TECNO is positioning itself as the go-to brand for people who want more value without paying premium prices.

The Spark 40 Pro, Spark 40 Pro Plus, and Spark Slim highlight how the smartphone market in Uganda is evolving. Customers now expect more than just basic communication tools, they want power, speed, style, and affordability in one device.

As counterfeit phones continue to threaten both buyers and brands, TECNO’s message is clear: buy only from trusted dealers. For Ugandans looking for a mix of style and performance without breaking the bank, the Spark 40 series could be one of the standout smartphone options in 2025.
