Bobi-Wine Accuses World-Bank of Neglecting Human Rights

Robert Kyagulanyi Sssentamu alias Bobi Wine has mentioned that the World Bank is being partial with only defending LGBTQ+ rights.

According to the National Union Platform’s-NUP president, institutions like the World Bank have remained silent on all other vivid human rights violation and suddenly shown concern for LGBTQ+

He said; “It is disturbing how institutions like these ones give priority to only gay rights and ignore all other gross human rights violations.”

The other human rights violations affecting Uganda as Bobi Wine mentioned include; Mass murder, torture, detention without charge and undermining democracy by rigging elections.

While Uganda has been plagued with these violations for a long time and as reported by the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights Uganda, the plague could get worse, World Bank has never taken a radical stunt as withdrawing funds over the same.

The response follows a statement by the World Bank that announced its withdrawal of public financing to Uganda because of the Anti-Homosexuality Act which it referred to as contradicting the Bank’s commitment to protect human rights.

Meanwhile, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has similarly responded stressing that Uganda is building capacity to be free from needing loans from institutions like the World Bank.

Museveni wrote; “If there are any residual illogicality in the law, we shall identify them and handle them ourselves like we fought Iddi Amin, the other tyrants and extended solidarity to brothers and sisters in Southern Africa that were fighting colonialism and Apartheid. We do not need pressure from anybody to solve problems in our society.”

According to Museveni, the Anti-Homosexuality Act goes beyond targeting homosexuals but those working at recruiting others into the “deviant” behavior.

Several Ugandans have also over their social media platforms criticized the resolve by World Bank accusing them of being partial in their defense of human rights.
