Entebbe International Airport Traffic Recovers with Shoot Up

Entebbe International Airport recorded a total of 842,429 international passengers (413,223 arrivals and 429,206 departures) between January to June 2023.

This has been reported to be the highest traffic recorded before the covid 19 outbreak.

According to the Director General Civil Aviation Authority Fred Bamwesigye, the figures reflect that the airport has registered 134,679 more passengers than in the same period last year 2022. He notes however that before the outbreak of Covid-19, the airport would record high traffic as well.

The airport according to the reports has registered 26.6 percent increase in international arrivals and 12.5 percent in in international departures compared to the same period last year.

Last year, there were 1, 574,405 passengers whereas 2019 recorded 1.8 million passengers. The level of recovery is at 87 percent by records.

Bamwesigye is optimistic that while the International Civil Aviation Organization has projected for Africa’s Aviation industry to full recover next year, Uganda may hit the mile stone end of this year.

Meanwhile, works on upgrading the airport are ongoing and these Bamwesigye reported stand at 85 percent towards completion.

The works include strengthening and rehabilitation of runways, Aircraft Apron which has been completed and building a passenger terminal to a capacity of 3.5Million people per year.
