UNBS Officials Clash Over Report in Parliament

Charles Musekuura , the board chairman of the standards council has accused members of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards of being corrupt.

In turn, David Livingstone Ebiru, the Executive Director UNBS accused Museruuka of being a spy .

These accusations flew around during UNBS’ appearance before the committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) for enquiry into their report.

According to Museruuka ,UNBS has become a den of thieves who take bribes to allow substandard imports into Uganda.

He said; “UNBS is full of corrupt inspectors who take bribes from people , there is need for a thorough investigation to clean it up.Let us not white wash the issue ,you also will be caught buying toys that can kill your children….”

Museruuka accused the entity or frustrating his overseeing work because of the overwhelming level of corruption.

He noted that the corruption is costing the country billions of money .

“This country is rich , I believe we can even collect revenue if up to 100 Billion Shillings, seeing us collect only 60Billion I am not impressed .It leaves me no choice but just keep quiet. You find a number of boxes written on exempted..”

In response, Ebiru accused Museruuka of having used underhanded methods to obtain such sensitive information.

However , Joel Ssenyonyi, the chairperson COSASE dismissed Ebiru’s counter response as irrelevant.

UNBS is scheduled to appear again before the committee for enquiry into the auditor general’s queries.
