
There was double murder in Kabyooya cell, Bugangari Sub county, in Rukungiri District on Monday afternoon.
Trouble started when, Rwakaliba Turinawe, allegedly hit and killed 15-year-old boy, Ezra Owamukama. Turinawe fled the scene but when the news of Owamukama’s death circulated, locals hunted for the suspect and lynched him.
The killings were brought to police’s attention by, Winnie Kembabazi, 40, the Kabyooya Chairperson. Elly Mate, the Kigezi region spokesperson quoting locals accounts revealed that Owamukama went to dig with his other two young siblings.
“While there, one Rwakaliba Turinawe, a male adult aged 48 years, went around and greeted Ezra but he did not reply. Turinawe went nearer with a hoe and cut him thrice in the head,” Mate said.
Locals tried to save Ezra life’s by rushing him to Nyakibale hospital, unfortunately he died on the way. Police said the bad news of the regarding Ezra’s death reached locals who instead revenged by hunt for Turinawe and lynched him.
Police visited Kabyooya village and picked the two bodies. Three suspects including the area Chairperson Winnie Kembabazi were arrested to aid in investigations.
Others arrested suspects include Twijukye Jack and Turyayongyerwa Ronald. Kigezi region has witnessed heinous murders in the last five days. In Kisoro District, four people were killed by relative days ago.
Gerald Ndikumukiza, a resident of Kageyo village, Busengo Parish, Nyarubuye Subcounty, alleged hacked his wife, Mujawimana Maserina, 26, who was a Munyarwanda.
Others killed by Ndikumukiza include Sebitama Deogratious 80, who was his father, Nyiraguhirwa Bonconsira 75, who was his mother and Nyiramahoro Joan 20, who was a wife to his brother George Nsabyareme.
The suspect handed over himself to police after spending three days in hiding. He confessed that he killed the quartet because of land wrangles
