
Three people have died following a fatal road crash along Namirembe Road in Kampala on Monday morning, October 5, 2026. According to traffic police spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, the crash occurred at about 9:30am near KK Building and involved several vehicles and motorcycles, according to police.
Police said the crash started when a Toyota Drone, registration number UBN 689A, lost control while descending Namirembe Road. The vehicle reportedly knocked a pedestrian, who died at the scene.
The Toyota Drone then collided with a tricycle, registration number UEF 033P, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFE 015X. The vehicle eventually came to a stop after crashing into another vehicle, a Toyota Hiace, registration number UAS 346W.
Four people were injured in the crash and were rushed to hospital for medical attention. However, two of the injured victims later died while receiving treatment, bringing the confirmed death toll from the crash to three. The identities of the deceased and the injured victims had not been released by police by the time of the statement.
Police said investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. The exact circumstances that led to the driver losing control of the Toyota Drone are yet to be established. The crash comes amid continued concerns over road safety in Kampala, where busy roads often carry a mix of pedestrians, motorcycles, tricycles and motor vehicles.
Police urged road users to exercise caution and follow traffic rules to prevent similar incidents. Further details, including the identities of the victims and findings from the ongoing investigation, are expected to be released as the inquiry continues.
