President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to the late King Oyo of Tooro, commending him for what he described as his “wonderful work” during his reign. Museveni made the remarks in a statement posted on his X page following the installation of His Highness Nyabongo as the new king of Tooro Kingdom.
The President said he was saddened when he discovered a letter written to him by the late King Oyo on June 15, 2026, shortly after the king had been buried. “I was very sad because, a day after he was buried, I was going through my documents and found a letter he had written to me on 15th June 2026,” Museveni said.
According to the President, the letter expressed appreciation for several matters, including the appointment of ministers from Tooro. Museveni also congratulated the newly installed king, Nyabongo, and expressed confidence in his ability to serve the kingdom.
“I also congratulate His Highness Nyabongo. I have been watching him on the news and he is a good newsreader. I am sure he will do a good job,” Museveni said. The President’s message came as Tooro Kingdom entered a new chapter following the installation of Nyabongo as its new cultural leader.
Museveni also used the occasion to honour the legacy of the late King Oyo, highlighting his contribution to Tooro and his engagement with the government during his reign.
