Police have arrested 29 supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential Candidate, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine along Mityana as he headed for his first Buganda region rally. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, confirmed that:
“Today 06 October 2025, presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert planned to travel to Mityana district for his presidential rally. He was expected to take the Mityana highway but chose to use Hoima Road. A joint security deployment was arranged to facilitate the candidate’s movement.”
Onyango said at Bujjuko trading centre along the Mityana highway, a group of NUP supporters gathered, drumming, whistling, and blocking the road, disrupting traffic flow and incited unrest by blocking roads. “Security personnel issued warnings, but the group persisted, leading to the arrest of about 29 suspects who are currently held at Wakiso police division,” Onyango said.
Onyango said police urges all presidential candidates to comply with traffic regulations, follow approved route plans, and respect the rights of other road users.
