19 Killed in Hoima-Buliisa Road Accident

At least 19 market vendors have been confirmed dead after a Fuso Lorry they were traveling in overturned along the Hoima-Buliisa road.

Superintendent of Police -SP Michael Kananura, the traffic Police Spokesperson confirmed the road crash occurrence explaining that it happened on Tuesday night at around 11 pm.

*FATAL ROAD CRASH CLAIMS 19 LIVES, 13 INJURED ON HOIMA-BULISA ROAD*

*6TH AUGUST 2025*

Police in the Albertine Region are investigating a single road crash that occurred on the night of Tuesday, 5th August 2025, at approximately 11:00 PM at Kigorobya along the Hoima-Bulisa Road. The crash involved a motor vehicle reg. number UBB 639W, a Fuso Fighter truck, which was transporting market vendors from Wanseko-Buliisa Market.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the vehicle, while ascending a slight hill at Kigorobya, failed to climb & subsequently rolled backwards before overturning. As a result, 19 people died on the spot & 13 others sustained injuries of varying severity.

The injured victims have been rushed to various health facilities for urgent medical attention. The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to Hoima City Mortuary for postmortem examinations as investigations into the exact cause of the crash continue.

We extend our deepest condolences tobthe families & loves ones of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.

*We strongly urge all truck drivers and transporters to:-*

1. Refrain from carrying passengers on top or in the back of trucks. They are not designed for human transportation.

2. Ensure regular maintenance & mechanical checks of their vehicles to prevent avoidable mechanical failures.

3. Exercise caution, especially when navigating hilly or hazardous road sections.
