Major General Dick Olum, the Commander of the Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa, has reaffirmed the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces’ commitment to bringing lasting peace and stability to the people of Kamwenge.

During a security assessment tour of the district, Maj Gen Olum expressed gratitude to the people of Kamwenge for their support of the UPDF and other security agencies in the wake of the Allied Democratic Forces terrorists’ infiltration of the area late last year.

Maj Gen Olum met with residents in Kahunge Town Council, Nyabitiusi, Kitewulizi, Kyabandalara, and Nkongoro, thanking them for allowing their children to join local defence unit structures and explaining their functions. He also cautioned residents against involving them in land disputes.

The Resident District Commissioner, Kamwenge, Mr. Isiah Kanyamahane, accompanied Maj Gen Olum and thanked the people of Kamwenge for their support of the government and security agencies during the fight against ADF.

He said support has been evident since 1997, and most recently when a few terrorists infiltrated and killed people in Kamwenge.

Other officials on the tour included Lt Col Mutabazi, District Police Commander Mr. Mugira, OC Prisons ASP Barya, and LCV Chairperson for Kamwenge Mr. Karungi.
