The Annual Joint AIDS Review Report has indicated a significant drop in condom use this year, from 200 million used condoms last year to 141 this year 2023.
Details indicate that distribution was short by 36 percent of the expected 328 million condoms. Meanwhile new HIV infections have been reported to remain high.
Recently ,statistics from the Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) indicated that Uganda has registered over 52000 new HIV infections since the year began, despite efforts by the Presidential Fast Track Initiative to end AIDS by 2030.

It was also revealed through a Makerere Public Health School study that a number of students were unaware of key HIV spread preventive measures.
Overtime through studies , interest in condom use has reduced due to various reasons members in society point out .
Interviews conducted around Kyambogo university by Daily Press Uganda indicated that atleast 1 in 3 female students disliked condoms.
Melissa Kagwa had this to say; “Condoms do not give the necessary pleasure of skin to skin, it feels odd like bathing with clothes on.”
Mutesi Tracy says; ” I have heard of enough scenarios of accidents from condoms like it getting stuck in someone. I wouldn’t try it.”
“Come to thing of it , lately as students we are more aware of the fear to get pregnant than infected , so somehow condoms are not priority, we are for family planning especially pills,” says Moureen Kyoobe.
Condoms have been encouraged for their added benefit of preventing Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
