William Gabula Nadiope IV has instructed natives in Busoga to embrace tree planting.
The instruction was passed during his 9th coronation anniversary celebrations this week on Wednesday, at Namungalwe Saza Play Ground in Iganga District.
He specifically mentioned that the natives should take interest in medicinal trees as well as fruit trees for their benefits.
According to the Kyabazinga, the fruit trees will be a source of food ,while medicinal serve for herbal value which will create resistance against some diseases.
To illustrate his heart’s call aligned with this year’s theme for the coronation anniversary, “harnessing environment through tree planting,” the Kyabazinga planted a tree during the ceremony to emphasise the importance of environmental conservation.
He also noted that the practice would preserve the environment amidst challenges of climate change , pollution and global warming.

In addition, the same produces for the trees could serve as sources of basic household income to improve the people’s standard of living.
“You must participate in growing both food crops and cash crops to eradicate lack of enough food in the family and poverty since everything will be at your table ,” said the Kyabazinga.
The celebrations this year were a pure moment of delight with prior celebration of the Inebantu a few days before the Coronation.
In attendance was the Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom Muvaala who carried the same message to youths while cautioning them to be hardworking and heavily contribute to kingdom development through personal growth.
He noted that in addition to implementing such projects as tree planting,there was need for them to take advantage of government initiatives like the parish development model to uplift their standard of living.
“Youths here should discover their abilities through attending kingdom programs like ekigangu which trains them in cultural beliefs and values like hard work . You would also get to tour new places for adventure.”
A number of kingdoms were represented at the celebration, including Buganda, Bunyoro and Toro among others.
