Judiciary Swears in 86 Grade One Magistrates

The Judiciary in Uganda has sworn in 86 Grade One Magistrates today at the High Court in Kampala. Together with the magistrates were one Registrar and 6 Assistant Registrars.

Sarah Langa Siu, the Chief Registrar congratulated the successful candidates with caution that their choice of conduct is a determinant to how long they keep their position.

She said to them; “You have a choice on choosing the brand either the one that will keep you in the Judiciary Service or see you out of the Judiciary even after today.”

The chief justice on the other hand encouraged the judicial officials to work under the available conditions. He said much as the judiciary is doing a lot to advance its infrastructure, digitize and much more, the new officials would still meet constrains.

He said; “Know that you are the software, you are the biggest material that is able to bring people justice. However beautiful a court room maybe, without an official justice can’t be extended.”

From past records, the Judiciary has always complained of the strain of backlog on cases pointing to understaffing. The sworn in magistrates according to the Judicial officials will be a boost.
