The Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers has launched a digital registry system to improve accountability amongst practicing engineers in Uganda.
Andrew Muhwezi, the President UIPE mentioned that registering will make it easy for the public to tell between lawful and quack engineers. Muhwezi says that this will also expose project contractors to the registered engineers in the country who can be selected from the site.

One of the identifications for lawful engineers should be a certificate of registration UIPE. All these certifications will be taken note of on the registry.
Muhwezi explains why there is safety in this saying; “Incase someone is contracted through guidance from the e-registry platform, it will be easy to trace engineers who abandon projects or cheat the public in any way.
Engineers in the past have decried of quacks infiltrating their profession which has led to substandard infra structure in place. The Engineer Registration Board has been working to get more professionals registered noting that a number do not sign up for registration.
