Mukasa Mbidde , a former debtor to Martha Naigaga has ordered for an apology after making part payment.
While Mbidde owed Martha 11, 250,000 Uganda Shillings, he has cleared 9million shillings according to Martha.
Martha says that this waw agreed upon as the final settlement with Mbidde accusing her of tarnishing his reputation over social media.
The Mbidde Martha issue has been on for close to a month , having started as a social media campaign via twitter dubbed “Mbidde pay Martha.”

The campaign started after Martha let out her cry over twitter of an outstanding debt she had with Mbidde after making furniture for him, however the arrangement had turned sour when Mbidde seemed not to be forthcoming with the money .
On August 2, 2023 , Martha took it upon herself to update her social media warriors that the battle should be put to an end , publishing a letter indicating that Mbidde has paid.
Alongside the letter acknowledging payment , Martha published another apologising for tarnishing Mbidde’s name. Accompanying the pictures to her letters Martha had this to say; “Dear lovely ones, I am here to say thank you to you all for standing with me.
I am here to inform you that I have been given 9,000,000 out of the 11, 250,000 that @Mbidde owed me. This was on condition that I apologize for “muddling” his reputation and accepting 9m as final payment.”
The social media warriors however seem displeased that she settles at part payment as well as agreed to coercion into writing an apology letter. Matthias Ssemanda responds; “Are we this lawless that someone part-pays a debt and publicly admits he won’t pay the rest.”
One identified as Marion says; “Even if you are in a desperate situation, never allow to sign documents when put under coercion. Always appeal for help from a lawyer before you sign anything . They are many who are willing to assist pro bono.”
King Melvin heavily disappointed with Mbidde’s response notes; “This situation reveals something troubling about our society. The weak are often taken advantage of by powerful people, and it goes unchecked. Society has become so accustomed to this that they consider Martha successful for recovering only 9 million out of the 11 million she was owed. In a society that functions properly, Mbidde would have not only paid the full amount but might have even been required to pay extra money in interest.”
However , there are those congratulating Martha with reason that she got lucky to get that much from him at least. Martha says she desperately settled for it because she wanted to clear her own loan else where .
“Because I needed the money desperately to settle the loan I got to be able to do his work, I had no choice but to accept. Thank you to you all for standing with because I know that even this wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for the fight you put up.”
Jim Spire Ssentongo, the chief campaigner for Martha’s payment seems to agree with those congratulating Martha as he says she was in luck , relating to “Things Fall Apart, a literary novel
“When Unoka paid you, he was only doing you a favour… you were lucky.”
