Police Officer Shot Dead in Nakapiripirit

A Police Constable attached to the Anti- Stock Theft Unit – (ASTU) has been shot dead by suspected Karimojong warriors.

Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson, has identified the killed police officer as Raphael Opio Akol.

Akol was shot dead today morning in an ambush. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces -UPDF responded by erecting an ambush in which one of the warriors was shot dead.

“UPDF officers responding to the incident set up another ambush, successfully neutralizing one warrior. They also recovered a bow and six arrows from the scene,” Longole said.

The Nakapiripirit District Police Commander (DPC) alongside the investigation team, visited the site and found two cartridges.

Akol’s body was transported to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

“We strongly condemn this act of violence. We commend our colleagues in the UPDF for their brave and tactical response, leading to the elimination of one cattle rustler,” Longole said.

Security has assured the public that every effort will be made to apprehend and bring to justice all individuals involved in Akol’s murder.
