The life of a couple in Semuto, Nakaseke district has tragically ended as a result of murder and mob action. Trouble started when Robert Serugo allegedly assaulted his wife Diana Nakayiza, to death following a domestic dispute.
Upon learning about Nakayiza’s murder, the locals launched a hunt for Serugo whom they found in the evening hours, and beat him to death. The couple was living at Kyambigo Village, Semuto town council, in Nakaseke District.
Patrick Lule, the acting Savannah regional police spokesperson, said locals attempted to rush Nakayiza to a health centre thinking she was still alive. However, the residents became charged when they were informed that she was long dead.
“The public on hearing that Nakayiza had died; they were charged and looked for Serugo Robert who was also murdered by the mob. Two cases of murder have been registered and both bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their relatives for burial after post mortem,” Luke said.
Police have called upon the public to resist from cases of domestic violence and mob justice. Lule reminds Ugandans to always seek assistance from the police in their respective area or utilize services of local councils.
