There was a shocking scenario in Rukungiri district, western Uganda, when a murder suspect irked by unpaid balance called a relative of the murdered 70-year-old man, Lawrence Kakonya, informing him that he was hired by the deceased’s granddaughter, Scovia Tukwasibwe 35, to kill him.

Kakonya’s murder was recorded by police yesterday under reference CRB 247/2023 and has left residents of Omukibare cell, Karangaro ward, western division Rukungiri municipality, in Rukungiri district, in total shock. Many are wondering what prompted the daughter to hire the killers of her grandfather.

Wilson Expeditor who was allegedly called by the killer and later alerted police said he received a phone call last night on the telephone number of the deceased Kakonya and the killer identified himself as Rogers.

“He told me that I have murdered your uncle and the body is lying in the banana plantation. I was hired by Scovia Tukwasibwe his granddaughter and her manfriend Iddi Misho. The reason I have decided to tell you is that they have refused to give me my balance of UGX2 million yet we agreed on UGX3 Million,” Expeditor said.

A team of police visited and examined the scene, Scovia (suspect) was evacuated from the mob and she is currently admitted at Nyakibale hospital, and she is under guard,” Elly Mate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson said.

Mate said Kakonya’s body was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary pending post-mortem. He added that exhibits of killer weapons the sharp new panga, hammer, and clothes with blood stains were recovered at the secondary crime scene which is Scovia’s house.
